On Thursday 2 April, 2009, His Grace Bishop Suriel attended the graduation of
Very Reverend Fr. Abanoub Attalla at Monash University, Clayton. Fr. Abanoub
graduated with a Master in Counselling. The ceremony was attended by about two
thousand people including the Chancellor, faculty, graduates, family and friends.
Fr. Mark Attalla (brother of Fr. Abanoub), Taconi Hala, Bishoy Attalla and Fr.
Abanoub's parents were also in attendance to share this joyful day. Fr. Abanoub has
been appointed to teach units on counselling at Saint Athanasius Coptic Orthodox
Theological College beginning in second semester, 2009. On behalf of the Diocese of
Melbourne, we congratulate Fr Abanoub Attalla on this fine achievement and we
look forward to his continued success and development of effective Orthodox
Christian Counselling courses in the near future, as well as setting up a Christian
counselling centre.
His Grace Bishop Suriel is eager to encourage clergy and laity to further their
studies in all fields of ministry in order to build a strong academic faculty for the
Theological College for the future of our Church in Australia. Several new initiatives
on religious education and theological studies will be announced throughout this
year to better serve our community. May God bless.
